About

Selin Demirel was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. At the age of 11, she began cello lessons with Prof. Eldar Iskenderov at the Istanbul Conservatory, where she graduated with distinction. She then moved to Germany as a pre-college student to complete a two-year training program in violoncello at the pre-college Institute of the Detmold Music University. Subsequently, she studied at the Hanover University of Music and at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In addition to these degrees, she pursued further studies in Switzerland at the Kalaidos University of Music in Zurich with Prof. David Geringas and Friedemann Ludwig. Selin Demirel is currently pursuing her master’s degree in the United States of America under the tutelage of Professor Dennis Parker.

Selin Demirel has successfully participated in international music competitions, winning the second prize at the István Kertész Competition in Zurich, Switzerland, and the third prize at the Chamber Music Competition in Edirne, Turkey.

Throughout her musical development, Selin had the privilege of being inspired and guided by renowned musicians such as Maria Kliegel, Susan Rybicki-Varga, Ditta Rohmann, Troels Svane, and Leonid Gorokhov. Selin Demirel was a scholarship holder of the Ayhan Şahenk Foundation and is also a scholarship holder of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation.

She regularly performs as a soloist in orchestras and gives concerts with established chamber music partners. She served as a principal cellist with various orchestras and is musically active in orchestras such as the LSU Symphony Orchestra, the Amman Chamber Orchestra and the New Philharmonic Orchestra Berlin. Selin Demirel has performed extensively in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, USA, Turkey, France, China, Hungary, Jordan, Italy, and Lithuania. With her broad musical repertoire and passion for the cello, she has made a name for herself both nationally and internationally.
